Step 1 — File a Police Report: Visit the nearest police station (Kantor Polisi) to file an official loss report (Surat Tanda Lapor Kehilangan or STLK). This document is essential for all subsequent steps. The police report should include the circumstances of the loss, your passport number (if you have a copy), and your personal details. Most police stations in tourist areas have officers who speak basic English.
Step 2 — Contact Your Embassy or Consulate: Contact your country's embassy or consulate in Indonesia as soon as possible. Many countries have embassies in Jakarta with consular representation in Bali. Some countries maintain honorary consulates in Denpasar. Your embassy will guide you through the emergency travel document or replacement passport process.
Step 3 — Obtain Emergency Travel Document: Most embassies can issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) or temporary passport within 1-5 working days. This document allows you to travel home or continue to your next destination. A full replacement passport may take longer (2-6 weeks) and may need to be processed in your home country.
Step 4 — Visit Immigration Office: With your police report and emergency travel document, visit the local immigration office to arrange an exit permit. Since your original visa stamp was in your lost passport, immigration needs to verify your entry records and issue documentation allowing you to leave Indonesia.
Step 5 — Exit Indonesia: With your emergency travel document, exit permit from immigration, and police report, you can depart Indonesia through the airport. Keep all documents together and arrive at the airport early, as the immigration exit process may take slightly longer with temporary documents.
